One of the symbols of summer in Japan is the Furin (風 鈴), wind bell made of glass, ceramics or metal. The refreshing sound of these bells helps people escape (or at least make them feel like it) the hot and humid Japanese summer. Originally imported from China, these pleasant sound making bells have been a standard feature of summer since the Muromachi period. (1333- 1568).
This cute wind chime resembles popular Japanese fortune cat (招き猫 Maneki Neko in Japanese) - Japanese figurine (lucky charm, talisman) that is often believed to bring good luck to the owner. The symbolism behind the colors: there are quite a few color variations and they each have a special meaning, for example tri-color cat as this one is beckoning general good luck, wealth, prosperity.
