Product Description One of the symbols of summer in Japan is the Furin (風 鈴 ), wind bell made of glass, ceramics or metal. The refreshing sound of these bells helps people escape (or at least make them feel like it) the hot and humid Japanese summer. Originally imported from China, these pleasant sound making bells have been a standard feature of summer since the Muromachi period. (1333- 1568).
This lovely Japanese bell is made of ceramics in the form of usagi (rabbit).
In Japan, the rabbit has been favored in many forms of art: drawings and paintings, ceramics and textile and chosen as a motif in all manner of crafts and confections since early times. It continues to make appearances in a wide variety of contexts today, from art to women’s accessories. Motif of rabbits appears in association with the moon, waves, and autumn plants in traditional arts and crafts. Rabbits only drive on forward and don’t step back, so they have been considered lucky as a symbol of advancement. Also, the rabbit is a symbol of cleverness and self-devotion, and appears in myths. In old days, it was a symbol of Spring.
